I'm a sports analytics consultant & data scientist based in London in the United Kingdom.
I currently consult for the Cleveland Guardians Baseball Club, developing & improving statistical models to help win baseball games and the World Series.
Before joining the Guardians, I analysed baseball as a hobby. I posted much of my work on Twitter and my blog.
I was previously an astrophysicist at Durham University. I worked on the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) project, simulating the evolution of the universe on a supercomputer to aid with analysis of galaxy surveys.
I independently developed one of the more impactful public pitch quality and "stuff" models. This model is now hosted at FanGraphs
I won the graduate division of the SMT Data Challenge at UCSAS 2022. My project used player-tracking data to build models that could be used to assess and optimize defensive alignments in baseball
I have created an open dataset of pitcher positions measured using computer vision in 60fps for over 1300 pitches thrown by 100 different pitchers
